Throwback: Joey Savatgy In Australia
Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki is the most successful 250cc (or Lites) Class team in the history of AMA Supercross and Motocross racing. For the last four years, however, Mitch Payton and his riders haven’t enjoyed any success Outdoors. It seems as though that’s all about to change, though, as Joey Savatgy has claimed Overall wins at three out of the last four Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship rounds, and holds a 20-point lead over Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Cooper Webb ahead of round five.
What a lot of people don’t know about Joey, the 2013 250 Class Supercross Rookie of the Year from Thomasville, Georgia – besides those facts, and that he used to race for the Australian-owned JDR Motorsports team – is that in 2009 and 2010, Savatgy secured four Australian Junior Motocross (AJMX) Championship titles.
This short highlights video was filmed at the 2010 AJMX Championship at Lakes in New South Wales. Transmoto‘s Danny Ham interviews the Suzuki-mounted Savatgy at the 3:15 mark, and interestingly, the other rider that Ham interviews is New Zealand’s Courtney Duncan (at the 2:00 mark), who recently enjoyed international success at Women’s Motocross World Championship rounds in Europe.
Pretty cool to look back on this content, and compare it with the positions the two talented riders are in now!
