Sunny Corner Ride To Make History

8 years ago | Words: Andy Wigan | Photos: Andy Wigan

Last weekend, the wattle might have been out in full force throughout the Sunny Corner State Forest, but the weather was anything but spring-like as a bunch of sponsors, Transmoto included, got together with the crew from the Central Tablelands Motorcycle Club (CTMCC) for their first taste of the epic 60 and 80km loops that’ll be used for next weekend’s Sunny Corner Trail Bike Ride.

“The response for this year’s 30th anniversary ride has been fantastic,” CTMCC’s Luke Seymour told Transmoto. “Here we are, less than two weeks from the event, and we’ve already had more than 850 entries. At the same time last year, we’d only had about 650. We’re confident we’ll break last year’s record of 997 riders, so we’ve made sure the event’s facilities and trails have all been upgraded to handle the extra volume,” Seymour went on to say.

Sunny Corner regulars will notice there have been substantial upgrades to the access roads and camp/staging area, and we can assure you that the trail loops boast more variety than ever before. In addition to the super-tight pine tree singletrail the event is renowned for, there’s a heap of freshly cut gum forest trails, flowing ridgelines and a few new technical sections to test your two-wheeled skill set.

President of the CTMCC and Luke’s father, Paul Seymour, was similarly upbeat about the September 17-18 event: “We’ve been evolving the Sunny Corner Ride for many years now, and we’ve built up a really good working relationship with the people from Forestry. They understand that we know this forest like the back of our hands, and they trust us to use the land in a sensible, sustainable way. Given the rain the area has received in recent weeks, we’re expecting conditions to be prime for the event.”

With Yamaha as the event’s major sponsor, there’s a GYTR-kitted 2016 WR450F up for grabs, along with a bunch of other prizes – such as YMI bike insurance, two PW50s and a fully enclosed MMG Trailer. The Transmoto crew will be on hand again this year to support the event and to give our WR450F project bike its last hurrah before it finds another home, so come over to our tent and say g’day.
