On Sale: Transmoto’s 50th Issue

9 years ago | Words: Andy Wigan

Not going to lie. It feels pretty damn good to be lighting the candles on Transmoto’s 50th issue. And not just for me. Fifty issues is a milestone that vindicates the decision a bunch of mates took five years ago to bring to life a dirt bike magazine we could all be proud of; a mag that serves readers’ interests and gives back to the dirt bike community.

Five years on, the physical magazine remains a key element of what we do, but there’s much more to Transmoto than printed pages. In fact, right from the get-go in 2010, it was clear to us that dictating how, when and where people consume their dirt bike content was a futile exercise. In an environment where technology was transforming how people lived their lives, we knew we needed to deliver quality, exclusive content in a way that was convenient to everybody. That meant engaging with readers through a combination of magazine, online and events, which is why being a multi-channel media company was Transmoto’s core founding principle. Rather than staunchly defending one medium, we’ve remained open-minded and fluid so we could move where our audience took us.

That capacity to embrace, and adapt to, change has really paid dividends because Transmoto has built the largest and most engaged audience of all bike media brands in the country. Across our platforms, we now speak to way more dirt bike enthusiasts, more often, than any of our rivals ever have. Not a bad achievement in five short years!

In addition to its magazine, website and social media presence, Transmoto is also in the events business (Transmoto 12-Hour, Day in the Vineyard, movie premieres); in second-hand bike and accessory sales through Transmoto Trader; a production company; a full-service ad agency; and we’ll soon launch the all-new and innovative Transmoto App that’ll give people yet another way to engage with us.

There are so many opportunities in all those spheres that we can’t wait to see where the next five years takes it. Wherever that is, we know it’s going to entail more of the same wild ride. Which is why we’re all about the journey, not the destination.

Anyway, inside our special 50th anniversary issue, you’ll find the most stunning double-page spread images that have graced our previous magazines, a tribute to our top front covers, a revealing story on the 2015 edition of the 12-Hour and our ’50 Memorable Moments’ feature, which outlines the standout and defining bikes, people and events that have made us laugh, cry and come back for more during the past five years.

You’ll find a Bike Dissected feature on Troy Bayliss’ 70hp KTM 450SMR, and a detailed insight into our 2015 Yamaha WR250F project bike. We also tell the heartwarming tale of 24-year Llel Pavey and his old man, Simon, who became the first father-son combo to ever finish the Dakar Rally, and revisit our best ‘Ripping Yarn’ stories – the stories so captivating, they’ve gone on to become part of the very fabric and folklore of modern-day dirt bike subculture.

Head on down to your local newsagent today to pick up a copy of Transmoto‘s 50th issue today. Alternatively, purchase a copy on your favourite digital device using the Zinio App.

Oh, and if you subscribe to Transmoto Dirt Bike Magazine this month, you’ll receive a free Transmoto-branded Mizu drink bottle and multi-tool (a very special gift that came with Transmoto‘s first-ever issue). You can subscribe now (at $50 for six issues) by clicking here.
