MX Nats @ Coolum: The MX2 Decider

The Motul MX2 class has produced some of the best racing the Motul MX Nationals has ever seen throughout nine rounds of the championship so far, and this weekend it will all come to a head when the Grand Finale of this year’s series takes place at Coolum on the Sunshine Coast.

This Saturday and Sunday, August 19-20, Australia’s fastest 250cc pilots will go toe to toe for the final time this season, and currently, there are three riders who are well within contention of the Motul MX2 title – Egan Mastin, Wilson Todd, and the rookie from Cairns Mitchell Evans.
So far this season, the trio have each experienced their fair share of race and round wins between them, but Coolum is the last location where it’s really going to matter, and each rider has voiced their final words ahead of this Sunday’s deciding round.

Wilson Todd – Championship leader – 550 points
“Even though I have the championship lead, I’m not producing the results that I need to.”
“I know that I’m capable and even though right now I have more pressure on me than I have had all year, it only motivates me more to bring it home strong in Coolum”.

Egan Mastin – Second in Championship standings – 547 points
“We knew what we needed to work on at the start of the year, and we have made our weaknesses our strong points.”
“I’m heading into Coolum with confidence.”

Mitchell Evans – Third in Championship standings – 536 points
“The last round is going to be exciting. I really have nothing to lose and it will be Wilson and Egan with all the pressure.”
“I plan on taking a few days to recuperate from the weekend and come out fresh and ready to go at Coolum.”

Also this weekend bikes, riders and teams alike are preparing to go ‘PINK’ in support of the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Throughout 2017, the Motul MX Nationals has seen support for a number of organisations including BeyondBlue and R U OK?, and this weekend the National Motocross Championship will dedicate the Grand Finale to those who have been touched by breast cancer.

Motul MX Nationals Series Promoter Kevin Williams today shared that like previous years Williams Event Management will donate $20 per entry for those supporting the ‘pink’ round this Saturday and Sunday. “With a large number of riders competing at Coolum this weekend, and a great portion of those donning pink in support of the NBCF, we are hoping that we can raise significant funds for those who work tirelessly to support those suffering from breast cancer, Williams explained.

The tenth and final round of the 2017 Motul MX Nationals will be held at the Coolum Pines Motocross Track this Saturday and Sunday, August 19-20.
