Jeff, Watch Out for that tree!

There are many things that could make one crash at the Transmoto 12-Hour. Take into consideration the fact that a motocross track can change dramatically over the course of a few laps, and probability alone suggests that at least one out of 400-odd competitors is going to go down on an already challenging 12km loop that changes every hour at Buckenbowra. Add things such as fatigue and other competitors into the mix, and there’s bound to be minor mishaps at the very least. Jeff Briggs was unlucky enough to have has epic spill captured on camera, from start to finish. We tracked him down in the pits to make sure that he was okay, and while he looked sore and beaten, and boasted a few bumps and bruises, he continued to race like a true soldier after some rest and relaxation. Remember, the Buckenbowra circuit only gets raced on once a year, so you’ve got to make the most of it!

Briggs said, “our team, the ‘Lazy Lusty Larrikins’, took it reasonably seriously. We did one lap each and then swapped riders, so it was like doing an intense 20-minute moto before getting an hour’s break and then doing it all over again. And again! The variety of the terrain in each lap is what made it enjoyable and challenging, so you had to be smart in the way you approach the lap.”

“The creek crossings seemed to bring a lot of people unstuck, but I got through them pretty well. It was the long, deep ruts in some sections that rattled me when I got fatigued later. By the end of the day, I’d say it was the roughest racetrack I’ve ever ridden. And that’s where the beauty of having teammates came into play. Just when you’re ready to pack it in, the boys kept pushing each other to get to the finish. Our aim was to put in consistent lap times all day, and we achieved that with laps around the 21-minute mark. We ended up 17th Outright, which was pretty respectable because we knew that there were more Pro guys in the event this year. With a great atmosphere, huge cross-section of riders, brilliant organisation, plenty of courtesy between riders, and the ability to ride a fun track with your mates, the 12-Hour was one of the most enjoyable events I’ve ever been to,” said Briggs.
