7 years ago | Photos: Yamaha Motor Australia

With over 500 competitors, the Finke Desert Race is Australia’s biggest international motorsport event. But unlike MotoGP you don’t need a big wallet or a bigger pair of bazookas to get close to the action. For almost 40 years, ‘Finke’ has been the marquee event on the Aussie enduro race calendar. A weeklong celebration of doing it in the dirt – on two wheels or four.
With the course spanning over 220 kilometres in distance, it sure is a spectacle to watch with riders doing better than 40 metres a second on the track is barely four metres wide.

The 2017 Tatts Finke Desert Race didn’t disappoint was with Active8 Yamalube Yamaha’s Daymon Stokie brought home the boys in blue their first victory on two wheels in 30 years  – the first since Stephen Gall way back in 1986.
