ECMX: Round 4 Maitland Results

8 years ago | Photos: MXPhoto

The fourth round of the 2016 East Coast MX series, presented by Transmoto, boasted full grids in six classes at Maitland in New South Wales on May 14-15.

A couple of Junior riders from Queensland made the trip south to compete against the best riders in NSW. KTM’s Jett Alsop (Qld) took a little time to warm up in the 7-U10 65cc class, but got stronger throughout the day, finishing second to Tyler Collins (NSW) in the first race, before winning the next two races convincingly. There was a tight battle between Connor Rossandich and Rory Fairbrother in the 10-U12 65cc class, with Rossandich crashing in the second race, coming together with another rider while racing for the lead with just two corners to go before the chequered flag – Fairbrother ended up taking the Overall victory. Blake Fox (9-U12 85cc), Dante Hyam (12-U14 85cc), Tyler Darby (14-U16 85cc) and Michael Driscoll (Junior Lites four-stroke) dominated on the day, sweeping all motos in their respective Junior classes.

In the Seniors, the day belonged to Corey James who was unchallenged in the Pro Open class, winning all four of his motos comfortably, and taking the cash in the Eliminator race as well. In the Clubman Open class, Kade Purcell and Jack Paterson battled back and forth, taking two wins each and tying on points, with Purcell taking the Overall win having the better finish in the final moto. Ashleigh McCormick made her return from injury, cleaning up in the Senior Women’s class, and former multiple Australian MX and SX champion, Craig Anderson, came out of retirement to have a ride in the +30 Vets class, winning the day in front of Christian Horwood. Kade Purcell (Clubman Lites) and Joel Wightman (Pro Lites) also went home with perfect scorecards.

The East Coast MX series, presented by Transmoto, will now head to Wollongong for the final round of 2016 on June 18-19. Points will be doubled, meaning competitors will be under pressure and championships could change hands at the very end.
