Dean Ferris: Back Racing in Oz

5 years ago | Words: Williams Event Management | Photos: Dean Ferris, Raceline KTM

After dominating the Australian MX Nationals motocross circuit in 2016, 2017, 2018 with CDR Yamaha, Dean Ferris has announced he was heading abroad this year to race internationally. Ferris set his sights on racing the AMA Motocross series, but during pre-season testing he was presented the opportunity to race the FIM Motocross World Championship as a fill-in rider for former MXGP World Champ, Romain Febvre, aboard a Factory Yamaha YZ450F machine. Unfortunately, things didn’t go to plan for Ferris. He injured himself in the first round of the 2019 series and lost this ride in the process.
Here we are a couple months down the track and Dean Ferris has announced he will be racing Rounds 4 and 5 of the Pirelli MX Nationals in Australia, but not on a Yamaha; he’ll be aboard a near stock Raceline Performance KTM machine – the first time Ferris has raced a KTM since his USA campaign back in 2014.

With his sights still set on getting back over to the USA to race the upcoming AMA Motocross series kicking off on May 18, this looks to be a short stint back in Oz for Ferris, but one that is sure to shake up things back home. We can’t wait to see how he stacks up against his long time rival, Todd Waters, and the other top riders in the premier MX1 class this weekend at Murray Bridge, South Australia.

Here’s the official news from Williams Event Management…

Williams Event Management, along with the Pirelli MX Nationals, are thrilled to see three-time Australian Champion Dean Ferris back racing under the Raceline Performance aboard a KTM at Rounds 4 and 5 at Murray Bridge in South Australia this weekend.
Ferris broke the news via social media explaining he’s prepared for this weekend and he’s expecting to be on pace and someone not to be overlooked. It is unknown at this stage if Ferris will contest the remainder of the Pirelli MX Nationals season, as he is still working on his AMA Pro Motocross ambitions.
