Choice’s Chosen Ones

What do all four Aussie riders from the winning 2018 International Six Days of Enduro Trophy Team have in common? They all run WP Suspension tuned by Choice Suspension’s Anthony “Gilesy” Giles – a renowned suspension tuner from Victoria. But don’t take our word for how skilled Gilesy is on the tuning tools; read Pro riders Daniel Milner, Daniel Sanders, Lyndon Snodgrass, and Fraser Higlett’s feedback after working with the hardworking Victorian-based suspension guru…

Daniel Milner

How long have you worked with Choice Suspension? And how did the relationship kick off?
I have been working with Gilsey from Choice Suspension since 2012, back when I rode for the Geoff Ballard’s Yamaha Off-Road Racing team. Since then we’ve worked together off and on over the years and have become really good mates. He has become more than just a ‘suspension guy’ for me; he’s helped me with a lot over the past seven years.

What makes Choice Suspension/Gilesy such a good tuner?
Gilsey is as passionate as me when it comes to perfection; he wants to win as bad as I do. He bends over backwards for me in order to get the best set-up possible, and with his experience and knowledge we get it sorted pretty fast.

Where do you notice the biggest improvements?
The biggest improvements with Gilsey are all-round. He doesn’t just work in the field of enduro, he does a lot of work on motocross and supercross bikes which, in turn, gives him a very wide skillset in all fields.

Daniel Sanders

How long have you worked with Choice Suspension? And how did the relationship kick off?
I started working with Choice Suspension back in 2009. I purchased a KTM 125SX with Choice tuned suspension and fell in love with how it handled. From that day, I worked with Gilsey for five years until I transitioned to Europe’s KTM Enduro Factory Racing in 2017. Come the start of 2018, I was back in Australia working with my old friend Gilesy again, and loving it.

What makes Choice Suspension/Gilesy such a good tuner?
I don’t think there’s anyone in the world who works as hard and is so passionate about the sport as Gilesy is. He has so much time for riders. You can tell he has put so much time into building up his business to where it is today, and it’s paid off with the influential name he now has.

Where do you notice the biggest improvements?
Choice Suspension can make a fork do what you want, when you want, while still being adjustable to a variety of riding conditions. You don’t have to chase your own tail thinking of what direction to go; he has got a very good understanding of suspension and that’s what makes him the best in the country, in my opinion.

Lyndon Snodgrass

How long have you worked with Choice Suspension? And how did the relationship kick off?
I started working with Gilesy at Choice Suspension just a few weeks before the 2018 Australia 4-Day Enduro (A4DE). After struggling to get comfortable with my previous suspension set-up, followed by some poor results at Rounds 1 and 2 of the AORC, it was clear that I needed to make some changes. After just half a day of testing Gilesy was able to build a setting that I was very confident with heading into the A4DE.

What makes Choice Suspension/Gilesy such a good tuner?
It’s hard to put my finger exactly. I think he’s very experienced and isn’t afraid of experimenting. He’s excellent at listening to rider feedback and being able to make changes positive with it.

Where do you notice the biggest improvements?
I feel I’m able to ride a lot more comfortably, and therefore faster. Being able to trust the bike on track and predict how the suspension will react has definitely helped me out this year. I owe a big thanks to Choice Suspension for getting my bike set up the way it is today. It’s awesome!

Fraser Higlett

How long have you worked with Choice Suspension? And how did the relationship kick off?
I first started using Choice-tuned suspension a week before the International Six Days of Enduro (ISDE) in Chile last year. I felt comfortable straight away after working with Gilesy, so decided to race on it soon after. Since then, we have done a range of testing with Gilesy and managed to make even more improvements.

What makes Choice Suspension/Gilesy such a good tuner?
Deep down, Gilesy’s a legend; he listens to you and works out where we are struggling. He is always striving to improve and progress the suspension set-up on my bikes.

Where do you notice the biggest improvements?
The biggest improvement I’ve noticed is that I am now able to run a plush setting that also has a lot of bottoming resistance. That’s exactly how I like my bikes.
