Brayton & Wilson continue streak
Penrite Honda’s Justin Brayton secured his second consecutive win in the 2018 Australian Supercross Championship at Coolum on the Sunshine Coast over the weekend, topping teammate Brett Metcalfe and KTM Motocross Racing Team’s Luke Clout in the hotly contested SX1 class.
Straight out of the gate, the American took control of the lead in the Main Event and never looked back, but it was the battle for the minor places that had the Coolum crowd on the edge of their seats. Nathan Crawford, in his debut ride with the CDR Yamaha outfit as Dean Ferris’ replacement (due to injuries sustained at Jimboomba’s season opener), was one of those contenders fighting for a podium finish, but a mistake forced his weekend to come to an end prematurely, with a suspected leg injury to be confirmed.
As a result, Clout inherited third behind Metcalfe, while fourth place went to Jace Owen from the USA on board his Complete Parts Kawasaki, followed by Yamaha-mounted Dan Readon who managed to round out the top five despite suffering a flat tyre.
In the SX2 class, series leader Jay Wilson moved into the lead in the closing stages of the race to clinch his second-consecutive victory in the 2018 Australian Supercross Championship. Second place went to Aaron Tanti with Wilson Todd rounding out the podium places. Hayden Mellross finished fourth ahead of American Dakota Alix to complete the top five.
The 2018 Australian Supercross Championship now heads to Geelong in Victoria for Round 3 on October 13.
