2018’s 8-Hour at Coona Cancelled
The second annual Transmoto 8-Hour at Coonabarabran – scheduled for July 14-15, 2018 – has been cancelled due to the region’s protracted drought.
With the long-range forecast showing no significant rain, it’s understandable that the operators from Coona’s Goanna Tracks MX & Enduro Complex have decided that the 8-Hour cannot be run in 2018 without compromising and enjoyment and safety of participants.
While disappointed, the President of the Coona MX & Enduro Club, Jason Hayes, was philosophical about the call. “Sadly, the drought has hit Goanna Tracks and the whole of North Western NSW extremely hard, and we’ve already had to cancel the NSW Motocross Championships that were due to be held at the venue earlier in June. With almost no rain all year, the dam is empty and the town is on Level 6 water restrictions. And with the weather forecast suggesting things won’t be changing in the next few months, it’s a simple matter of the venue’s conditions being unsuitable for staging the 8-Hour this year. It would be uncomfortable for riders and spectators, while the limited visibility could create a safety issue.
“The Club would love to hold an event that people remember for its fantastic track and conditions. So with a bit of luck, we will see a change in the weather for next year, and we can hold an 8-Hour that’s memorable for all the right reasons,” Hayes went on to say.
Those who have already entered the 2018 8-Hour at Coona will be contacted by the Transmoto Events team to arrange a refund, and we sincerely hope that you can join us at one of the two remaining 2018 events: the Transmoto 6-Hour at Conondale (August 18-19) or the Transmoto 8-Hour at Stroud (October 13-14).
For 2019, we’re looking forward to returning to Goanna Tracks; to build on the fantastic foundations laid by the inaugural 8-Hour held at this world-class complex in 2017, and to support the entire local community who’ve all been impacted by the drought.
