2017 Dakar Rally: Stage 2 Results
Reigning 2016 Dakar Rally champion Toby Price (AUS) has taken the lead of the 2017 race after winning stage two. Price finished 3.22 minutes ahead of Matthias Walkner, who got a five minute penalty later on to loose second position to Monster Energy Honda rider Paolo Goncalves, Yamaha’s Xavier De Soultrant finished third.
Stage two was the first real test of the event, a 275km run to San Miguel de Tuchman. Price took advantage of being lower down the running order to win his seventh career Dakar stage, taking the overall lead by
2.54 minutes.
Price – “Today was a whole different day. There was a lot of speed; a lot of fast roads and it was really dusty. We also had to deal with a lot of animals. It wasn’t a tricky day in navigation but you can’t put a cow in the road book and it becomes difficult when they are popping out at you. But it’s good to get to the finish with this heat.”
