2015 MX Nationals: Round 5 Results
The 2015 MX Nationals reached its halfway mark over the weekend at Coolum in Queensland.
DPH Motorsport’s Lawson Bopping claimed his first Overall win for 2015 in the MX1 class, going 2-2 after kickstarting his day with a GoPro SuperPole win.
“Today was an awesome day,” said Bopping. “To get the win in SuperPole and holeshot the first moto was really good, and then in the second race I just did what I had to do.”
The winner of the opening moto was Penrite Honda’s cameo star, Ben Townley, who proved that retirement is nothing to worry about. The second moto was won by KTM Motocross Racing Team rider, Kirk Gibbs, who will carry the red plate into the second half of the season.
Local riders, KTM’s Caleb Ward and Husqvarna’s Nathan Crawford, dominated the MX2 class at Coolum, sharing moto wins. Ward’s consistency handed him his second consecutive Overall round win.
“I want to try and win as many races as possible, and this round wasn’t too bad, but obviously I’d like to keep pushing forward and get some more moto wins,” said Ward.
In the MXD (Under 19s) class, Connor Tierney collected his second round for 2015 on the tough and technical circuit.
“It feels so good to be able to come out and win again – everything has gone so well today,” said Tierney. “I’ve got the points and I’ve got the Overall so I couldn’t be happier.”
The 2015 MX Nationals will continue at Raymond Terrace in New South Wales on July 5.
