Live updates from the 2014 Motocross of Nations in Kegums, Latvia, penned by Transmoto’s man on the ground in Europe, Jason “JT$” Thomas… All images shot by Aussie enduro legend and long-time friend of Transmoto, Geoff Ballard…

The 2014 Motocross of Nations is over! France has won in dominating fashion ahead of the Belgians, with the Americans rounding out the podium.

The podium battle wasn’t without drama, though, as both of the American riders of Ryan Dungey and Eli Tomac crashed on the opening lap, putting them in last place. As they moved through the pack, Great Britain looked to have the third step locked up until disaster struck Shaun Simpson’s machine. The broken chain cost the Brits a sure podium and massive heartbreak for the throngs of British fans. Tomac was a man possessed as he blew through the field and nearly passed Jeremy Van Horebeek for second place in the moto. No one challenged the man of the day, however, as Gautier Paulin reeled off another moto win to give the French a 1-1 score in the MXGP division.
Australia had an absolutely miserable outing with Chad Reed suffering a huge crash just out of the starting gate and Matt Moss also crashing out later in the moto. After consistent finishes all day, it was a tough ending to a long weekend in Latvia. Reed looked to be okay afterwards – just sore and ready to spend a few weeks recuperating.
All-in-all, it was a successful weekend in Latvia and everyone had their moments in the spotlight. The final results were as follows:
France: 17 points
Belgium: 27 points
USA: 33 points
Great Britain: 33 points
Germany: 72 points
Italy: 73 points
Switzerland: 74 points
Russia: 75 points
Estonia: 77 points
Netherlands: 80 points
