Australia’s Meghan Rutledge aiming to secure WMX World title this weekend

Kawasaki-mounted Meghan Rutledge will be racing to be crowned Australia’s first-ever FIM Women’s World Motocross Champion at the final round of the 2014 series, the MXGP of the Czech Republic, in Loket this weekend.

18-year-old Rutledge from Picton, NSW has enjoyed a very successful season racing in Europe with the Bud Racing Kawasaki Monster Energy team this year. Throughout the five rounds of the FIM World WMX Championship so far, Meghan has won three of the rounds and won four motos on board her KX250F. She has also finished on the podium in eight out of ten races so far.

Meghan has been playing catch-up, however, over the last few rounds after a disastrous second moto at the second round in Trentino, Italy, where she secured no points due to disqualification after a race official helped her re-mount after crashing. After a tremendous come back, Meghan now sits just four points behind the series leader and defending champion, Chiara Fontanesi, heading into the series finale this weekend.

“I want nothing more than to become world champion,” said Rutledge. “I feel really good and know in myself that I can do it. I’ve been battling illness recently which has hampered me but I’m 100% fit now and ready to go out there and do what I need to do. I really want this.”

With 25 points awarded to the moto winner and 22 points awarded to second place, Meghan can become world champion in Loket by finishing first place in each moto, regardless of where her closest rival, Fontanesi, finishes.

The sixth and final round of the 2014 FIM Women’s World Motocross Championship takes place in Loket, Czech Republic this weekend, July 26-27.
