Barcia fined $5000 after Houston meltdown
It looks like GEICO Honda’s Justin Barcia will be fined $5000 after he roosted Asterisk medical personnel, lapper Lance Vincent and race winner, Ken Roczen, after Vincent and Barcia had a run in on track that saw Barcia crash, lose his race lead and finish second.
Racer X’s Jason Weigandt reports: “Justin Barcia has been fined $5000 for his conduct after the conclusion of last night’s Houston, Texas round of Monster Energy Supercross. Barcia led the majority of the race before tangling with lapped rider Lance Vincent with just three turns to go, putting them both on the ground and costing Barcia the race win.
Barcia got back up and finished second, and then went into a public meltdown, roosting race winner Ken Roczen (who had no part in the Vincent incident) and then circling back around to Vincent, who was still laying on the track being attended to by Asterisk Personel, specifically Dr. John Bodnar. Barcia roosted Vincent but got Bodnar as well. Later, Barcia went to tears on the podium.
The genesis of the fine came from the roosting Asterisk personel, but the fine was levied not just for that specific moment, but for Barcia’s actions as a whole after the race.”
We don’t condone Barcia’s behaviour, especially when he could have seriously injured one of the medical crew or Vincent himself, but is a $5000 fine a bit heavy? What do you think? Leave your response in the comments section below.
