2014 AJMX: Stars shine at Appin
Members of the 2014 Australian Junior Motocross team who competed in Belgium earlier this year took centre stage at the Appin circuit yesterday.
The 85cc 2T/150cc 4T 12-U14s class is split in to two groups this year, and has two standout performers after three heats each. 2014 MXGP 85cc runner-up, Caleb Grothues, and Riley Dukes have set up an exciting day of finals after taking out three heat wins each in their respective groups.
Finals started for the 85cc 2T/150cc 4T 14-U16s class started yesterday, with Cooper Pozniak leading on 67 points ahead of Cody McMahon on 61 and Hugh McKay on 60 after two finals. Another Australian team member, Hunter Lawrence, sits in a comfortable position after winning both heats in the 150cc 2T/250cc 4T 13-U15s group. His Aussie teammate, Mitch Evans, continues a run of good form, winning all heats in both the 150cc 2T/250cc 4T 15 years and 125cc 2T 15 years categories.
One class to keep an eye on will be the 125cc 2T 13-U15s, with internationally experienced Hunter Lawrence and Caleb Grothues setting up an exciting set of finals as they sit one and two after three heats.
Ashleigh McCormick and Danielle Foot today continue a terrific battle in the 125cc 2T/250cc Girls championship. After two finals, McCormick has a six-point lead over Foot with Cheyenne Taylor a further 12 points back.
