Motorcycling Australia Press Release: Day 1

Day 1 of the 2014 Yamaha Australian 4 Day Enduro has set the scene for an exciting weekend between the top four riders overall.

Chris Hollis for CDR Yamaha started first after yesterday’s prologue and will remain first after today’s gruelling tests.

Daniel Milner (CDR Yamaha) remains in second position overall after tailing Hollis for the entirety of Day 1.

Josh Strang riding for Yamaha this week looks to have carried his strong Grand National form form the States to the 4Day, he currently sits third in front of Toby Price (Motorex KTM Off-Road).

Lachlan Stanford rounds out the top 5 overall for Husqvarna.

Active8 Yamaha’s Josh Green battled through an ankle injury suffered in yesterday’s prologue to place seventh overall in a day he was happy with.

“I had a pretty good day today I just tried to stay smooth and consistent and learn the tracks.” Green said.

“I hurt my ankle a little bit yesterday so I’ve just been trying to not hurt that again and trying to get through and hopefully I can get a bit more speed and pick up a few places tomorrow.”

Green was among many of the riders who are pumped to be riding in such a spectacular setting with challenging tests in between.

“The trails are awesome they’ve got some really cool uphills and downhills with some rainforest type sections that are really wet and some nice creek crossings, I loved it.

“The special tests come up a lot tighter than what we thought when we walked them, a lot tighter to ride than what we thought.

“They’re really good tests, I’m looking forward for tomorrow.”

International rider Mike Brown, representing the Glenn Kearney managed Husqvarna team at the 4Day said he was pleased with his opening performance in Australia’s premier Enduro event.

“The first day of the 4Day was good, I started out pretty good I think I was fourth or fifth after the first test.” Brown said

“It was a good day, we went through the rain and got some slippery trails, overall I think I’m a couple seconds back in the E1 class so I’m looking for a good day tomorrow.”

Brown said he is focused on chasing the E1 leader Peter Boyle (Motorex KTM Off-Road) during Day 2 tomorrow.

“Some of the tests tomorrow are going to be really technical and tight, but they’re really good grass tracks.

“I’ll try to stay close to the lead in the E1 class and try and be more consistent, today I was overshooting some corners, tomorrow I’m going to try and keep it smooth.

“We’ve got a lot of tests tomorrow, it’s going to be a long day.”
